Counseling
Everyone can benefit from therapy.
Casie Johnston, LPC
Canfield, Columbiana, TELEHEALTH
Casie believes mental health is truly as important as physical health, and everyone can benefit from therapy in some way, shape, or form in their lives. She also believes children are very resilient and can benefit from therapy, with the help of family/parental support. When seeking counseling, it is very important to connect with your counselor, build rapport, and have trust. So don’t give up, if you only have experience with one counselor and it didn’t work out, there’s so many counselors out there that you have to be able to connect to one! Casie wants the stigma of going to counseling to change in society. She doesn’t want people to view counseling as something being wrong with them, but that it is as similar to seeking help when they have a physical illness and go see a doctor.

In her Masters program, Casie specialized in children and adolescents and completed her internship at a counseling center that treats clients from birth to 21 years of age. In addition, Casie recently received EMDR training (June 2024) from an EMDRIA approved program and looks forward to putting this training to use in session with both adults and children.

Psychology was her third major, after switching from education and nursing, and it was an instant connection! Casie fell in love with the field and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Shortly after, she pursued her Master’s degree and graduated with all A’s with her Master of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Psychology and mental health seemed to be her calling! In addition, Casie worked with multiple professors in research in both her undergrad and masters programs. She is currently collaborating with her graduate assistant professor to get their research manuscript published.

When asked what Casie believes she is awesome at, Casie replied, “Being a mother of two young children, and with my training and working with kids, I believe I am awesome at connecting with kids of all ages. I’ve learned to turn therapy into games for kids to help them and allow fun to be had in sessions. I also come from a large family, and am the youngest of 5 kids, so I am great at connecting with others and meeting new people. I am a “people-person” and choose to be around others vs staying to myself.”

“When I was 18, I went to Georgia to visit family with my mom. My cousins and I told my mom we were going hiking, but we really went skydiving. I wiped out my bank account to go and it was my favorite experience ever! I’ll always be adventurous and love exploring, traveling, camping, fishing, and anything outdoors.”
